Lincoln the Circuit Rider by Fred M. Torrey

This is the other original equestrian statue which Torrey designed for the Lincoln tomb. A West Virginia native, Torrey studied at the Chicago Art Institute and worked as an assistant to the celebrated sculptor, Lorado Taft.

As a long-time Illinois lawyer, Abraham Lincoln traveled the old Eighth Judicial Circuit twice a year, arguing cases in local county courthouses. In the early years, he rode the 450-mile circuit by horseback.
