24. Blacksmith ShopJoshua Miller moved to New Salem in 1832, a year after Abraham Lincoln arrived. He worked as the village blacksmith, helping his neighbors by making horseshoes and other metal articles. During this time, Lincoln himself considered becoming a blacksmith, but turned to law instead.Miller developed a flourishing business and could be heard pounding out new items on his anvil day after day. This reconstructed building features a vintage forge, hand bellows and tools of the era.
