20. Samuel Hill HomeIn 1835 Samuel Hill built the only full two-story home in New Salem for his bride Parthena Nance. It also was one of few buildings in the village known to have a porch.A native of New Jersey, Hill moved to New Salem from Cinncinnati, Ohio. He arrived in the village two years before Abraham Lincoln, started a store and later a carding mill. By 1840 he had moved his family to nearby Petersburg, where he died in 1857.
