Tinsley Building, Springfield, Illinois |
When jury members on federal cases deliberated, they went
from the second-floor courtroom to a common room on the third,
adjacent to Abraham Lincoln's law office. Lincoln, his partners, and clients
often passed through this space.
The table seated only ten, the number of jurors required during this
time period. The stairs at the left lead to a storage area. Lincoln's
friends Edward Baker and James Matheny rented the office south of the jury room.
