Old Supreme Court Chamber

As a member of the Thirtieth Congress, Abraham Lincoln would have known this first-floor chamber as the home of the U.S. Supreme Court, which met here from 1810 to 1860. After the court moved upstairs and eventually to its own building, the room was restored to its 1850s appearance. In 1857, Chief Justice Roger Taney announced the controversial Dred Scott decision, which Lincoln vigorously attacked in Illinois through speeches and letters.
