Sculptor Leonard Crunelle portrayed Abraham Lincoln as he may have looked
while Captain of a company of soldiers during the Black Hawk War of 1832. Crunelle
was born in France in 1872 and became a student of sculptor Lorado Taft in Chicago. He
also created the "Lincoln the Debater" statue in Freeport, Illinois.Crunelle Statue in

Just off Galena Street, which is Route 26, you will see this bronze statue
on the north side of the Rock River. Located between the two downtown
bridges, the statue dominates the site of the old Dixon blockhouse. It was
dedicated August 23, 1930, during the centennial program of the founding
of Fort Dixon.
