This cloth campaign banner which promotes Abraham Lincoln
and his first presidential running mate, Hannibal Hamlin, hangs in the hallway
of the second floor, just outside Representatives Hall.
When the 1860 Republican National Convention nominated Lincoln, neither
he or Hamlin attended the convention or had met face-to-face. Both men
once served in Congress in the 1840s -- Lincoln in the U.S. House of
Representatives and Hamlin in the Senate.
