Mt. Pulaski, Illinois |
After the county seat moved back to Lincoln, Illinois, this
building took on a new life in the community. The second floor courtroom
where Abraham Lincoln argued cases eventually served as a library, school, and civic center.
In 1936 the town deeded the building to the state, which began extensive
renovation and restoration. As workmen removed the floor on the second story, they
discovered the original floor beneath it, so today you will see these old boards as
you step into the room.
